Things to Know
⚠️ Temperature sensitive — Feels firmer in cold rooms, softer when warm (standard for memory foam)
⚠️ Softer feel over time — All foam mattresses soften with use
💡 Medium firm feel — Not too soft, not too firm. Less "sinking" than typical memory foam
💡 Keep room temp consistent — 68-72°F for best feel year-round
👍 Quality build for under $1,000. No red flags. At 3 years, it's almost in perfect condition.

What I Found

The cover looks very much like a new cover. No pilling, no stretching out. The cool thing about Puffy is it has a zippered cover — so you can wash it. That could be another reason why this mattress looks so clean after 3 years. The zipper is also high quality and still works perfectly. A lot of lower-end brands skimp on the zipper and it fails after a year.

Body Impressions & Sagging

Side view showing the mattress is completely flat — no body impressions or sagging

Looking at the mattress straight on, it is completely flat. I don't see any sagging and I don't see any body impressions.

What I Found

Completely flat — no dips, no sagging, no body impressions anywhere. That means the foam layers are still intact. The support layers are still doing their job. After 3 years, this is exactly what you want to see.

How It Feels

What I Found

Puffy uses what they call "Cloud Foam" — it's similar to memory foam but it doesn't give you that sinking, hugging feeling as much. I actually like it. It feels more like it's holding me on top of the mattress rather than swallowing me. When I turn from my side, I can feel the spot where I was laying is still dipped down and coming back up — so you still get some of that memory foam feel, just not as extreme.

Edge Support

What I Found

When I sit on the edge, I'm not sinking down very far. That means I'm still being supported by the base support layers. The structure is still intact. I've sat on some mattresses where I sunk all the way down to the floor just because the support layers were so shot. This one is not doing that.

The Foam Layers

Explaining what's inside this mattress

Looking at layers
The three layers exposed
Support foam
The support foam base layer

This is a very standard entry-level memory foam style build. Three layers — nothing fancy, nothing to hide.

Layer 1: Cloud Foam (Top)

This is Puffy's proprietary comfort layer. Very similar to memory foam but they claim it has better airflow and doesn't sink as much. When I push on it, it's still bouncing back quickly — which means it hasn't broken down. This is what you feel when you lay on the mattress.

Layer 2: Transition Foam (Middle)

This is a polyurethane foam layer that's a little less dense. It creates a transition so you don't feel the firm base foam underneath. Still bouncing back — doing its job.

Layer 3: High-Density Support Foam (Base)

This is the foundation — it's what determines how long any foam mattress lasts. I'm not sinking too far down and it's all still bouncing back. The structure is intact.

What I Found

All three layers are still doing their job after 3 years. The comfort layer is still bouncing back. The support foam still has structure. I can see from the bottom where it was sitting on slats that it's still very flat — no wave pattern from the slats. That tells me it's quality, high-density support foam.

Fiberglass Check

Looking at the fire sock and layers inside the Puffy mattress

Checking the fire sock and layers inside — no fiberglass

Puffy uses a rayon fire sock to meet flame retardant standards — not fiberglass.

No Fiberglass

Puffy does not use fiberglass in their mattresses.

A lot of budget memory foam mattresses — especially the ones imported from Asia and sold on Amazon — use fiberglass fire socks. The problem is those cheap fire socks can disintegrate and spread fiberglass particles everywhere. People were breathing it in, getting itchy. We had a lot of these mattresses come through our facilities.

I picked up one mattress from a lady who was itching everywhere. Took it back to our facility — fiberglass all over inside. So always check that your mattress doesn't have fiberglass, especially if it's a budget brand.

Temperature Sensitivity

Why memory foam feels different at different temperatures

One thing to know about memory foam mattresses — they change feel based on temperature. In cold rooms, the foam hardens up and feels firmer. In hot rooms, it gets loose and feels softer.

This is actually one of the top reasons memory foam mattresses get returned to our facility. Someone tries it in a showroom, takes it home, and it feels different because they keep their home super cold or super hot.

Tip

Keep your room at a consistent temperature — around 68-72°F — and it'll feel like a medium firm mattress year-round.

Who This Mattress Is For

My overall thoughts on who should consider this mattress

Good For

  • People who like memory foam feel
  • Those who want less "sinking" than typical memory foam
  • Primary bedroom use
  • Guest rooms
  • Medium firm preference
  • Budget under $1,000

Probably Not For

  • Hot sleepers (all-foam traps heat)
  • People who hate memory foam feel
  • Those who need very firm support
  • Rooms with extreme temperature swings

If you like memory foam and you're looking at Puffy's entry-level mattress, I'd say go for it. There's no red flags here. It's held up well after 3 years. Quality materials, fair price for what you're getting.

I actually like some of Puffy's higher-end models too. The whole lineup seems to use quality materials.

Tim My Take

For under $1,000 at a Queen size, I think this is a great quality mattress. It's a great build. The fact that it's still in almost perfect condition after 3 years is very promising.

No body impressions, no sagging, all the materials are still holding up. I would expect this mattress has at least another 3-4 years left in it — putting it at 6-7 years total. Maybe longer depending on who's sleeping on it.

It's a very standard entry-level memory foam build — base foam, transition foam, comfort layer. Nothing fancy, but quality materials throughout. No fiberglass. Made in the USA.

If you like memory foam and want something under $1,000, this is a solid choice. No red flags.
